CERRITOS COLLEGE - The St. John Bosco Braves (ranked #2 nationally) and Mater Dei Monarchs (ranked #1 nationally) played each other for the fourth consecutive year to decide the CIF-SS (California Interscholastic Federation - Southern Section) Division I Title. In the three previous meetings, Bosco won in 2016 while Mater won in 2017 and 2018.
This year's game was one for the ages with the Braves coming out on top 39-34.
Greg Biggins, who writes on high-school football, has the deepest dive into this fourth match up between these two football powerhouses. Check out his article HERE.
The Braves move onto the State Title game versus the historical northern California powerhouse De La Salle Spartans on Saturday, December 14th at 8pm at Cerritos College.
For the Braves, this CIF-SS Title is the third one in seven years (2013, 2016, 2019) with the Braves winning State Titles in 2013 and 2016--and, a National Title in 2016 (with an undefeated record of 16-0). Some consider the 2013 team the best southern California high-school football team ever. Click HERE for an article by Los Angeles Times High-School Sports reporter, Eric Sondheimer.
